What is the maximum (or minimum) weight to fly a paraglider?

Do you wonder if you are too heavy or too light to fly a paraglider?

We explain why.

The harnesses are approved for a maximum of 120 kg.There is no minimum weight, from the moment the child is aware of what he is going to do (go flying without mum and dad...), we have harnesses suitable for children from 3 years but in general, we rather recommend from 5 or 6 years.

But, for practical reasons, we nuance these maximum weights and make restrictions depending on the season, the time of day and the type of flight.

A paraglider has a certain surface (on a tandem about 42 m²), under this wing, there is a certain weight (the 2 people and their equipment).  This gives us a weight/area ratio.  Depending on this ratio, several flight parameters change: flight speed, take-off speed and distance, descent or climb speed in thermals...

If we are rather heavy, we will need more distance and more speed before being picked up by the paraglider and taking off.

If there is headwind, this wind helps us and gives us some of the speed, which we need before reaching take-off speed, it also reduces the running distance.  So we are going to favor the times when we can have this headwind with passengers who are rather heavy or who have difficulty running and conditions of light or no wind with rather light passengers.

Which leads us to try to favor the easiest conditions based on all this datas.
